A thousand years.
It’s been a millennium since Elena’s fateful first meeting with Archangel Raphael. She has survived war and loss, experienced beauty and cruelty. But no matter what, she has always held on to her mortal heart, as she and Raphael have held on to each other. Passionate and vibrant, they’ve built a life that has stood the test of time, growing ever stronger with each turn of the sun.
But change is coming—of a magnitude they could have never imagined—and it will forever alter the trajectory of their existence.
Even as they grapple with the cataclysmic shift in their personal lives, the Cadre of Ten, which has maintained a hard-won peace for centuries, begins to simmer with dangerous fault lines. The specter of madness looms in one archangel, the promise of war burns between two others, and in darkness far from mortal and immortal eyes stirs an ancient, slumbering power.
Suddenly, the future is terrifyingly uncertain . . . at the very moment that Elena and her archangel need to protect a treasure infinitely more precious than eternity.

“Mortal or immortal, there is no predicting when we must say goodbye.”

Nalini Singh has created the perfect epilogue, for fans of her epic paranormal fantasy Guild Hunter series, with Archangel’s Eternity. A story that includes updates on all the characters and plots she created in this highly detailed and evolved 18 book series she first created in 2006 and published in 2009. With each novel Nalini further expanded this universe and her fan base of readers devoted to not only the Archangel Raphael and his hunter/consort Elena but the myriads of characters who were given their own supporting and subsequent starring roles in her stories. This far-reaching series is set in present and future earth with the incorporation of a layered society that includes mortals, vampires, angels, and the ruling archangels. Each book has intense action, conflict between and good and evil, and magnetic, developing romance. Whether in big or little ways Archangel’s Eternity follows up on all of the series main characters and plots in a smooth, cohesive, and satisfying fashion. Because of a new plot thread Nalini introduces in this final book, which is the how all this history gets tied together, Archangel’s Eternity can be read as a stand-alone. However, I highly encourage you to make this your incentive to delve into this series and truly enjoy the Guild Hunter world.

“Her life was a tapestry that had begun woven in blood and anguish, but a thousand years had passed since then – the tapestry had grown until that bloody patch was a faded corner, so much hope and life around it that it was no longer the dominant feature.”

My favorite part of Archangel’s Eternity was the return to Elena and Raphael. Their story was what kicked off this series and the chemistry is just as intense and compelling as it was when they were essentially in conflict with each other. Raphael was the powerful and deadly archangel of the New York region and Elena a lethal, human guild hunter (one who would hunt down and eliminate blood-lust vampires who had gone rogue). When an unlikely working arrangement caused them to engage with and trust each other a connection was form and a spark that neither anticipated was lit. Ultimately, they each chose to make the ultimate sacrifice for the other, cementing a bond and Elena’s immortality. To see what has come of their relationship hundreds of years later is cool. How many stories have we read where we wonder, “where are they now?” and get to see this progression. Nalini gives her fans that for Elena and Raphael and so many more of our favorites. While this is the official end to the Guild Hunter, Nalini explains in her author notes, “Everyone who knows me knows I have trouble letting worlds go – I fall in love, and there are always so many more avenues to explore, so many more alley to go down. Knowing that about myself, I’ll leave the door open just a crack – enough for inspiration to slide in if and when the slipstreams of time collide in just the right way.” While it is sad to see this end we will still be able to find short stories from the Guild Hunter world in her newsletter. Thank you Nalini for almost 20 years of paranormal fantasy and romance!
Tanya’s love for books has been a lifelong passion that she likes sharing with others. Reading is also the thing that relaxes her after a day of juggling the many responsibilities that come with being being wife to an amazing man, mother to four great kids spread around the world, business manager, and farm hand on their place in southwest Missouri; home to Akaushi cattle and a menagerie of pygmy goats, horses, chickens, dogs and cats.
