Three years ago, scientist Emery Finch did something completely out of character: She got married. To Luca—the impossibly charming landscaper she met on one blistering night in Vegas who made her laugh, made her dance, made her feel.

But now, Emery is consumed by her top research, missing dinners, forgetting anniversaries, and promising herself Luca will understand once her cutting-edge discoveries come to light. Until the unthinkable happens: A tragic accident takes Luca from her.

Desperate not to lose him, Emery breaks every rule, using the classified technology she’s developed to bring him back to life. And Luca would probably thank her for it, if only he could remember her. Their first kiss, their Sunny Sundays at the beach, the life they built together...all of it is gone.

It may be a miracle of science, but for Emery it’s her one shot at a second chance. And this time, she won’t waste it—because true love is always worth reviving.

A Spicy and Sweet Read Just in Time for Summer

The Romance Revival was my first Christina Lauren novel, and I’m officially a fan of the contemporary romance powerhouse behind the name—writing duo Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings. Let me tell you what I loved about this story.

STEM girl representation: As an English major, I’m far from a STEM girl, but I love reading about brilliant FMCs who push the margins of intellect and innovation. In this story, Emery is both a true genius and a completely relatable screw-up. I liked her almost immediately.

Deeply layered MMC: I think contemporary romance often prioritizes the FMC’s perspective, but The Romance Revival gives Luca equal depth and emotional complexity. I found myself just as invested in his journey as Emery’s. He isn’t simply the love interest; he’s a fully realized character navigating an unhappy marriage and searching for his own fresh start. Together, Emery and Luca make their second-chance romance feel authentic and tender. Also, their chemistry is hot!

My only disappointment was the ending. Without spoiling anything, the mystery that the authors weave into the story fell a bit flat. The ending felt rushed, with characters that seemed forced to work together in one final scene. It was a bit unsatisfying.

Even with that minor criticism, The Romance Revival made me an instant Christina Lauren fan. I’ll definitely be adding more of their books to my TBR. If you’re looking for a smart, heartfelt contemporary romance that’s perfect for summer reading, this one deserves a spot on your list.
