I Found My Next Contemporary Romance Series…

Lost and Found is Tarah DeWitt’s third novel in the Spunes series, set on the Oregon coast. Although I hadn’t read the first two books before picking this one up, Lost and Found convinced me that I need to go back and start the series from the beginning. What a story. 

This is a character-driven novel that handles some tough subjects: cancer, grief, physical trauma, and IVF. Yet Dewitt weaves these into the lives of her characters with such care. Some metaphors that Dewitt used to about grief in particular hit so hard and true that my heart seemed to skip a beat. I gasped, I sighed, I hummed in recognition. And did I cry? You bet I did.  

It is also a really fun and spicy friends-to-lovers story. Bea and Silas are absolutely perfect together, even if it takes them years to realize it. Their chemistry feels effortless; their banter sparkles and watching them help each other heal makes their relationship even more rewarding. 

Elements of this story that I think readers won’t be able to get enough of are: 

  • Silas’ flirtatious, golden retriever energy 
  • Bea’s humorous, sacrificial love 
  • They have a “bucket list,” which includes sour dough, deep-sea fishing, and a grumpy orange cat 
  • The unforgettable Byrd siblings, who bring warmth and plenty of laughs 
  • No frustrating third-act breakup 

While readers new to this series can pick up Lost and Found and still have a great reading experience, my gut tells me that it would be even better to start with the first Spunes book, Savor It, if you have the chance. That’s exactly where I’m headed next. If it’s anything like Lost and Found, I’m expecting another fantastic read that keeps me laughing, crying, and promising myself “just one more chapter” long past bedtime.
